Community Leaders Come Together to Provide Free Gas for Residents Impacted by the Government Shutdown

Compassion and community unity filled the air yesterday as local officials, organizations, and media partners joined forces to host a Free Gas Giveaway in Fort Lauderdale to support residents still recovering from the recent government shutdown.

The event, held at the 7-Eleven located at 2990 W Broward Boulevard, was spearheaded by Broward County Commissioner Robert McKinzie, Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Pamela Beasley Pittman, national recording artist Loe Shimmy, and Jason Jimeno of Nana’s House, in partnership with SouthPromo.com and Cox Media Group’s 99 Jamz, Easy 93.1, HOT 105, and HITS 97.3.

Throughout the morning, cars lined up as volunteers and community leaders worked together to provide $20 worth of free gas per vehicle. The initiative was designed to bring a bit of financial relief to local families and government employees who had gone weeks without pay or lost access to essential benefits during the shutdown.

"This is about helping where help is needed most,” said Broward County Commissioner Robert McKinzie. “So many families have been hit hard financially, and even something as simple as a tank of gas can make a real difference. We wanted to let people know that their city and county care — that they’re not alone.”

Residents expressed gratitude as city and county officials personally greeted attendees, shared words of encouragement, and reminded them that the community stands together during challenging times.

The event was a shining example of what can be accomplished through collaboration between local government, small businesses, and community partners.
