The Artserve Gallery of Fort Lauderdale was filled with excitement and anticipation on Saturday, February 18th as guests anxiously waited for The Fabulous Life Charity Fashion Show hosted by The Wonder Twinz to begin. The Wonder Twinz, otherwise affectionately known as Davica and Demetria Williams, created this annual event to bring awareness to Systemic Scleroderma while sharing Demetria’s journey with this chronic, debilitating disease and shining a spotlight on positive body imaging.
Arriving early, some guests were treated to a VIP reception with food, drinks, and a private walkthrough of the venue’s art gallery showcasing art from local South Florida emerging artists. Vendors tables lined the exterior of the room showcasing a few of South Florida’s black-owned luxury fashion, beauty, and health companies. Cuffed Design, one of the event’s sponsors specializing in handcrafted fashionable leather bowties, bracelets, bags, and accessories, introduced his NEW Wonder Twinz inspired leather cuff.
The program began with an opening prayer by the Wonder Twinz followed by a performance from hip hop artist Lace Sanders. The runway show began with three little divas walking to the sounds of Beyoncé rocking Designs By Nikki Kids Tu Tu Collection. Adult female models dressed in fashions from Nicole A LA Mode Boutique, Couture Designs by Nikki Bee, A-Stone, and EGLAM 360 Boutique took over the show and killed the runway.
Systemic Scleroderma is a rare, chronic, and debilitating multi-system disease that affects each patient differently. In the United States, there are nearly 300,000 people suffering from this disease. The proceeds from this fashion show are attended to assist Demetria with offsetting medical and living costs due to her being uninsured with five different autoimmune and connective tissue diseases. Demetria is required to utilize oxygen 24/7 and a walker or wheelchair.
